Privacy policy and user responsibilities

1. What we collect

When you register we collect your name, username, email, mobile number and password. When you create a profile we collect the details you enter: names, date of birth, height, religion, ethnicity, civil status, education, profession, location, interests, a short bio, what you are looking for and an optional photo. We also store the requests and messages you send through ThaniKada.lk.

2. How your data is protected

• Encrypted before storage. Names, email, username, mobile number, date of birth, height, bio, request notes, chat messages and profile photos are encrypted before they are saved in our database.
• Passwords are hashed, not stored in readable form.
• Email verification. When you sign up we email you a one-time 6-digit code to confirm your email address. You only do this once; after that you log in with your password. Codes expire quickly, work once and are stored only in hashed form. Never share a code with anyone.
• Encrypted at rest. Our systems decrypt your data only to show it to you or to the people you choose to share it with. This is not end-to-end encryption, so please do not share bank details, passwords or other highly sensitive information in chat.
• If you type a city or interest that isn’t in our lists, it is saved so other members can choose it too. Please don’t include personal details in these fields.
• General categories such as religion, civil status and district are stored as reference codes so we can suggest suitable matches. They are linked to your profile.

3. Who can see what

• Other members see your display name, age, location, photo and profile details.
• Your full name and your contact number are shown to another member only after a request between your profiles is accepted.
• Messages are visible only to the two profiles in the conversation.
• Photo privacy. Each profile can show its photo to everyone, show it blurred until a request is accepted, or hide it until then.
• Horoscope. Nakath, rashi and lagna are shown on the profile. Birth time and birth place are shown only to members you are connected with.
• Family details (parents’ occupations, siblings, family type and values, community or caste, languages) are optional and shown on the profile if you add them. Please add only what you are comfortable sharing.
• Living abroad. If a profile lives overseas, its country, city, status and plans to return are shown on the profile.
• Partner preferences are private. They are used only to find and rank matches. Other members are told whether they fit your preferences, and which kinds of preference they miss, but never the details.
• Other members can see whether you are online and how many connections your profile has. You can hide your online status from the Profiles page.
• We do not sell your personal data.

4. Your choices and rights

• Edit or delete a profile at any time. Deleting it removes its requests, conversations and photo.
• Download your data. From Account & privacy you can download a file with everything we hold about you.
• Delete your account. From the same page you can permanently delete your account and all linked data: profiles, photos, requests and messages.
• Reset your password by email if you forget it. Reset links expire quickly and work once.

5. Blocking, reporting and moderation

• You can block any member. You and the blocked member will no longer see each other or be able to message.
• You can report a profile. Reports are private and the reported member is not told who reported them.
• If you report from a chat, our moderators can read that conversation to review your report. No other chats are shared.
• Moderators may suspend accounts that break these rules. Their actions are logged. If a reported or reporting account is later deleted, the report is kept without identifying details.

6. Photo and ID verification

• Verification is optional. You send a photo of your ID and a selfie so we can confirm that the profile is real.
• The images are encrypted, seen only by our verification team, and deleted as soon as the review is finished. We keep only the result: the verified badge, and the date.
• If you later change the name, date of birth or photo on a verified profile, the badge is removed and you can verify again.

7. Your responsibilities

• You decide who to connect with. Accepting or declining requests, chatting and starting any relationship are your own decisions and your own responsibility.
• We do not verify members’ identities, claims or intentions. Please check details yourself and involve your family where appropriate.
• Never send money or share financial information with someone you meet here. Meet in public places and tell someone you trust.
• Give accurate information, be respectful, and do not harass or mislead others. Profiles are for people aged 18 or over.
• If you manage a profile for a son, daughter, sibling or relative, you confirm that you have their permission.
• ThaniKada.lk is not responsible for what members say or do, online or offline.

8. Use this platform to connect, then move on

We encourage you to use ThaniKada.lk only to connect two people. If the conversation goes well and you wish to pursue a serious relationship, please continue on another platform or in person, with your families involved. ThaniKada.lk is an introduction service, not a place to run a relationship.

9. Languages

ThaniKada.lk is available in English, Sinhala and Tamil. If a translation is unclear, the English text applies.

We may update this policy and will show the updated date at the top of this page.
